Ladies and Gentlemen,
I haven’t heard from any of you regarding my email earlier this week, but would like to thank Mr. O’Toole, Mr. Poilievre and Ms. Bergen for voicing their support of the Freedom Convoy. I wanted to follow up with you all for several reasons:
As you are all aware, there is massive support for the Freedom Convoy that is approaching Ottawa. Canadians, coast to coast, have made signs, decorated their cars, donated food, water and over $7,000,000, and stood for hours on the sides of highways to encourage the thousands of people driving across the country to protect Canadian freedom. As you know, tens of thousands of trucks and other vehicles are expected, with hundreds of thousands of peaceful ralliers in attendance. (Or, as CBC would report, “12 trucks, and a handful of extremists”.)
Contrary to Mr. Trudeau’s baseless and slanderous accusation, the Freedom Convoy and its supporters are neither racist, misogynistic, or a “fringe minority”. One only needs to watch non-mainstream video footage to realize that people from all walks of life, including visible minorities, the Indigenous, the young and old, blue collar and white collar, men, women and children are supportive of, and included in this movement. As a Canadian who has watched this Government attempt to destroy the social fabric of Canada for the past six years, I have cried more than once this week, so extremely grateful to see that, despite your best efforts, you have not managed to defeat our Canadian spirit and values.
Mr. Trudeau stated this week that the opinions held by the Freedom Convoy are “unacceptable”. Mr. Trudeau, apparently you have forgotten that we live in Canada, where all people have the right to speak freely, and make their own decisions regarding medical treatment. Your statements would be more at home in China (that “basic dictatorship” you so worship). Please be advised that every Canadian’s opinion on medical freedom, bodily autonomy and freedom from unscientific public health restrictions are acceptable. If you don’t feel capable of representing all Canadians, or protecting minority rights, then it is well past time for you to step down and allow someone more qualified and dispassionate to take the reins and guide this country in a new direction.
Mr. Alghabra apparently also thinks that members of the Freedom Convoy are “far-right”, and there is no room for discourse surrounding these punitive and baseless mandates. Apparently his time growing up in Syria formed Mr. Alghabra’s opinions on democracy and human rights. It is unfortunate that Mr. Alghabra did not grow up in Canada, where each Canadian is supportive of each other, and each Canadian values others’ differences and respects their rights to autonomy. It is also unfortunate that Mr. Alghabra, much like Mr. Trudeau, doesn’t understand his role in parliament, which is to be the voice of the people, nor does he understand that Canada is not a dictatorship (and will never become one).
Several politicians seem to be suggesting that the Freedom Convoy is a violent group of people. This suggestion is laughable; I know two grandmothers who are driving a F350 across the country to defend their grandchildrens’ right to freedom by peaceful protest, and they are surrounded by others who are doing the same. One only needs to look on social media to realize the purpose of this group is to bridge the divide in this country for which Mr. Trudeau is personally responsible. Watching people unite to collaborate and give hope to one another after two joyless years in this country is absolutely beautiful; and yet the Liberals seek to call a vast percentage of the people in this country “terrorists” for daring to do this very thing. (My elderly parents, who have lived in misery for the past two years as this government has stolen their friendships, community and church, are apparently also “terrorists” because they support the Convoy and are grateful that they now have reason to be optimistic – to quote the Princess Bride, “you keep using that word, I do not think it means what you think it means”.)
Please be advised that any attempt by the Government to “outwait” the protest will not be well received by Canadians. We are already embarrassed by the cowardice exhibited by Mr. Trudeau, (allegedly) a triple-vaccinated individual, deciding to isolate for five days specifically to avoid the Freedom Convoy. It would be unbelievable, if it weren’t so completely believable given Mr. Trudeau’s track record of hiding from difficult situations. Winston Churchill, he is not.
My plea to you is to end all COVID-19 restrictions tomorrow. Canadians have spoken, loud and clear: this Government has attempted to steal our freedom, our happiness, our community, our spirit and our autonomy in the name of public health, and we have had enough. It is time for each of you to do your job and represent your constituents instead of pledging your allegiance to a Government that turned its backs on Canadians a long time ago.
I can’t believe I have to remind you this, but each of your salaries is paid in part by truckers, as well as grandmothers, the unvaccinated and yes, even Conservatives. As one of your employers, I am advising you that your performance up to this point has been completely unsatisfactory, and will no longer be tolerated. Pull up your fancy socks and start defending the rights of the people you represent, or start looking for a new job. And for those of you who plan to implant “false flags” to try to incite violence this weekend, please note that all Convoy participants have been told to record any rabble-rousers. It would be extremely awkward if video footage were to uncover the fact that protestors were implanted in the crowd by the Liberals in order to destroy the Convoy’s credibility, and is of course both illegal and treasonous.
I look forward to watching Canada’s new chapter of democracy unfold this weekend. I truly hope you join me in making Canada a country where all feel welcome, all are heard, and all are respected.
